While snow covers most of Mt. Hood, most of the year, near Portland, Oregon, USA, the valley west of Mt. Hood rarely has a significant snowfall, and is challenged to handle it when it comes!
So yesterday we got four inches of snow at our house near the base of Mt. Hood, and although Portland proper, to the northwest of Mt. Hood got less than that, the snow slowed getting children home from school in the afternoon, and slowed the evening commute. My youngest daughter's commute time which is usually forty-five minutes, was four and a half hours!

| There was enough snow for little Grand Girlies and their dad to go sledding! |

| And when we went back inside the Holly wreath we had crafted, welcomed us. |

| Soup has been made...Again...and...Again...and...Again! |
 |
And knitting and crocheting is being done...Again...and...Again...and...Again 🤗

ReplyDeletewe got about 2.5 inches here. i went in late to work today and we closed the store 1/2 hr early. It's thawing some but still ice/snow on our street and roads in town are ok but need careful driving as it's not been above freezing but a degree or 2 today. I'm working on packages to get out tomorrow. A bit behind but better late than never! Take care and stay warm, my friend! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThe snow looks beautiful but it must be such a nuisance if all the journeys take so long. I must get some holly and make a wreath like yours, very effective but quite simple.
ReplyDeleteThat was some commute, I do not envy your daughter at all. Like you my agains this week have been soup and hot chocolates because it is seasonal rather than the need to keep warm. Loved the wreath, a real delight and a joy to see the children sledding. Take care.

ReplyDeleteSnow. Groan. We've had a LOT of it here in Michigan, far more than we usually get in December (or maybe it just seems that way). It's been so cold too. I hold my breath every time I know my 'kids' are driving in it. It's not them I'm afraid of as I think they know how to drive in it, but some people don't and drive crazy.

Snow is lovely if you don't have to travel daily in it. Your holly wreath is so simple and festive and you can never have too much soup, especially in snowy weather. Have a lovely weekend:)

ReplyDeleteBrr...that looks cold! My son is in Portland at the moment - on board a Cruise Ship in dry dock! (He is a navigator) He was telling me how cold it was.

We use to live in Silverdale and those long traffic tie-ups in the Seattle-Tacoma area are a bad memory. I feel for your daughter but, luckily like you said, it doesn't happen often. At least the grandgirls had a good time because of the snow!
ReplyDeleteBrrrr. It's cold here today...-7F on our back deck right now and colder predicted for tomorrow. Lots of snow in the past few weeks and more predicted for the first few days of next week. I'm ready for winter to be over. I'm hoping December is icky so January and February are better. I know that Portland isnt used to dealing with snow and ice like were' all having this year. It does look like your grandgirls are having a great time in it though. WIshing you and yours safety in the cold and ice and hoping you continue to enjoy your soup and knitting/crochet. Miss you Gracie!

Your yard looks like ours.. the boys are out sledding as I type. I am so glad your daughter got home safely. I one time got in this kind of traffic mess and it took 6 hours to get a few miles.. it was awful. Your room looks so cozy and warm and happy. I am kind of enjoying the forced home-body-ness. :-) I do hope to see you soon, though! Crab salad at Elmer's with you is calling me. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

ReplyDeleteMy agains this week were watching D.I.L. in panto up in Yorkshire, more shopping, lunch out with friends, card making and a coach journey! I of course don't do all of these on a regular basis ie panto and coach journeys - guess the rest I do! :-) Stay safe and cosy. Hugs Anne x

ReplyDeleteAgain and again! My Electric blanket. Knitting socks! Counting points and being tempted by so many holiday goodies. We snowshoed today. It was beautiful in the fresh snowy woods and we were shielded from the winds!

Ugh...I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with the weather and snow (and ice, for us) On Friday evening, I prayed my husband all the way home. He works afternoons and we had rain coming down that was freezing before it hit the ground. Today, it looked like ice crystals coming down. It's pretty but oh so dangerous. We've been ramping up on the soups Too! Stay warm and safe.

ReplyDeleteThe soup looks good. And I loved seeing the grandkids sledding. I remember when we lived in Portland we didn't get snow very often, but when we did, sledding down a nearby street with Papa was a lot of fun!
