Five On Friday: 2017 Snow!

My last four post titles may be tiresome in that I seem to be perseverating on the subject of snow, but it is a topic of interest for me of late. In my defense, at least I am showing you some new year rather than old year snow in this post!

The last few weeks have been filled with good gatherings of family and friends, the exchange of cards and letters and gifts, testing some new recipes, puzzling, and lighting all our Hanukkah candles, Advent candles, angel chime candles, and miscellaneous candles.

If you have the time to play Where Are the Sheep?, you can look at the photo above of our Christmas tree and see if you can find the latest members of my flock that are hanging around.  One is a black and white Wild Woolie, and the other is  Lemon Drop.  [Also, if you enjoy sketching and sheep you might enjoy perusing a copy of "Henry Moore's Sheep Sketchbook". I was given a copy that I find delightful.]

We used a standard sugar cookie recipe and used almond flour and coconut shortening and sugar to avoid gluten and dairy.  They tasted good, but we need to fiddle around with the chemistry because they did not hold their stellar shape well.

My oldest son in law's mom skillfully crocheted for me, the pretty purple tea cup you see in the photos above.  Didn't she do a lovely job?  She said she followed a pattern tutorial on YouTube.

Most of our Christmas decorations are packed away again as we launch into the new year.  Thanks to getting a bit more snow and colder than usual temperatures here we are making lots of soup, tea, coffee and cocoa, and the forecast is for a bit more snow and ice this weekend, but I will see if I can resist including snow in the title of my next post. Do you think I will succeed?

Gracie xx

Although Amy, is going through a difficult time, she has set up a Five On Friday link through her Love Made My Home blog.  I know she will appreciate us sending good thoughts her way, and I appreciate her kindness in setting up the link for those of us who choose to participate.
See what other Five on Friday finds others have shared.

  1. Hi Gracie! What a pretty teacup and sweet gift. I've done a few online puzzles on my iPad along with k tiring and some cleaning. Life has been inside this week since it's been below zero here most of the week. More snow coming here too. I think I this will be the endless winter. Stay warm and safe my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. Hi Gracie
    Happy New Year.
Your post of Five is very cosy and warm.
Living in the Southern Hemisphere - we are in mid Summer here, so it's all about salads and fruit and staying cool!!
I would love the weather to be cold and snowy just for Christmas week and then it can go back to summer ha ha!

  3. Nice to have snow again. We had a wee bit on Sunday but didn't amount to much but cold/freezing weather all week! I spied 2 sheep on your Christmas tree. Phil took our net lights off the rhody bush yesterday as he was off work and found time to do a few things...even though it was quite cold outdoors! I'm planning on taking tree down this weekend. Hope you have a blessed weekend my friend!

  4. No need to apologize for your snow blogs-I happen to LOVE snow (although this year ir has been tempting to dream of more spring-like weather). Your photos, as always, leave me feeling peaceful and warm and hungry (yummy cookies). Found one of your lovely sheep, but will have to look at the photo again when I am on my laptop:)
    Stay safe this weekend!
    God bless,
    Aimee

  8. It is pouring down with rain here, so much so that the path to work was flooded. A little snow would go a long way to make me happy. Your family home looks cosy and happy, I feel like sitting down and have a chat with you. x

  9. Snow - I'm always pleased to see it on other people's blogs rather than outside my door! I love the blue glass in your window, beautiful.

  14. Happy New Year, Gracie! Gluten free baking has been a problem for me. I also substitute stevia for sugar. There's a health food store nearby that makes the most delicious gluten and sugar free cookies. I sure wish they'd share their recipes. I try to eat gluten and sugar most times because they both cause inflammation, but I ate about a thousand cookies over the holidays and I think my system must be in shock. I'm pretty much back on track again, thank goodness. So glad you had such wonderful holidays! xoxo

  21. I won't tire of seeing and hearing about snow, we haven't had any at all this winter and it's very rare to get snowfall here so it's a very magical thing for us :)

  23. That crocheted teacup is cute. I would find a pot to put in it and put a succulent in it! BUT....make sure you don't let the water leak out the bottom of the pot, it will rot the yarn. I know this from experience. The cookies looked yummy in your picture. Have fun playing around with the recipe.

  24. Hi Gracie, It really has been cold in the PNW. Brrr. Great weather for staying inside and drinking tea. :) I'm going to check out that sketchbook for my sister who has started sketching animals. The teacup really is cute. Glad you had good gatherings and lit so many candles! Happy 2017 to you and yours.

  27. Hello Gracie. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a kind message. It looks very cosy in your home where you can enjoy the snow from indoors although I believe some members of your family have been spending some time out in the snow. I hope that travelling is not too much of a problem for those who have to go to work. I love your blue glass ornaments hanging in the window, the jigsaw puzzle you are working on, the crafting and the cooking of the biscuits. Blessings to you and your loved ones this new year 2017.

  29. Hello Gracie, I hope you had a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. I for one never tire of reading about or seeing photos of snow - we rarely get any down here on the South Coast of England so it's a treat. Enjoy those hot drinks and jigsaws (I love jigsaws!) and stay warm and cosy.
