Tea Light Tea from the Bunny Business

Can you see Mt. Hood peeking out from the trees on the lower left portion of this photo?  We have been having some lovely autumn weather with lots of pretty leaves still.

I took the first  two photos of this post from the gym parking lot after swimming.

Several days ago I finished the bunny on the right of this photo for my oldest grandson and hope to get the bunnies to hop into the mail today.

But there is no doubt that the autumn weather is shifting toward winter.  My youngest daughter called out to me the other night to grab my camera and capture a photo of the moody moon. It was chilly out and I was glad to come back to the warmth inside to do some stitching!

I just received a generous parcel from a lovely friend in Scotland who thought I might like to try to make a bunny from some leftover yarn she had after making a teddy bear.  I think it is making wonderful bunny fur and am so grateful for the gift!

Although the weather has been delightful on many days, yesterday it was sunny, but terribly windy.  Our power was off for four hours causing me to realize how blessed I am most of the time to have power!  I filled my paraffin lamps and then started longing for a cup of hot tea.  I filled the teapot with water, stuck in a tea bag and put the teapot over a tea light candle.  I did not time it, but I was so grateful that I eventually got a cup of hot tea :) not the strongest, but comforting and thirst satisfying.
Have you made tea this way?

Today our area has a winter storm warning for the next 24 hours.  It is sunny at the moment, but we may see our first snow and ice since last Spring down here in the valley below Mt. Hood, although Mt. Hood is sporting a beautiful fresh coat of snow already.

Hoping you are comfortable and cosy and happy wherever you are!

  1. I can't say I've ever made tea that way myself but I know how hot those things can get because I used to have one of those potpourri simmering sets and I burned myself once! Your bunnies are so cute and how nice to be sent some yarn for making more. I'm sure it will be perfect for a bunny.

  2. Hi Gracie, I hope you got home safe from our swimming time. I'm in front of the fire and am good and tired. Your two bunnies turned out so cute and I'm sure your grandsons will love and treasure them. Now to see if the snow comes tomorrow!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. Wow Gracie I'm so very happy that you have made so many of those bunnies. I just love them. I have to say mine didn't turn out very cute at all. Next spring I think I will try to make another one. I have never tried to make tea with a tea light, but I'm glad you were able to make it and enjoy it. Hope to see you soon.

    1. I am guessing it was about an hour, Helen, but I will try to make it again tomorrow and note how long it takes.

  6. I love the bunnies Gracie! How nice of your friend to send the yarn for another one. Aren't bloggers the best?
We are also enjoying cooler weather here. After the summer that wouldn't end, it is a welcome change. I love to have a roaring fire at night! So comforting to me.
No, I haven't made tea the way you did, but how clever or you! I just went through my tea stash today, and was tempted to make a cup, but didn't. I love Constant Comet Orange Spice!!
Have a lovely upcoming weekend! Bundle up and enjoy!

  7. I am impressed with making tea with a tea light. I am blessed that I have a wood burning stove that I can pop a kettle on. We are getting cooler but no snow. Love the bunnies and beautiful yarn for another one.

  9. I love it that your bunnies are multiplying. They are totally adorable! Great idea about using a tea light candle! I'll have to remember that should we lose power. Stay safe today...they've started closing schools around NW Oregon.

  16. Hi Gracie - Love the photos - your home looks so warm and cozy. I would never thought to try to make tea over a tea light . What a clever idea. We had a light dusting of snow here in upstate NY and it looks beautiful and gives me a good reason to spend some time indoors baking and doing needlework.

  17. Your bunnies look great Gracie :) As ever your photographs are stunning and I loved reading about you making tea with tealight for heat - we quite often get power cuts where I live, but we are lucky to have a woodburner that we can place kettles and pans on to either heat a stew/soup or boil up some water for a cuppa.
Can't wait to see the boucle bunny :)

  20. I felt exactly as you did when the power first went off here last week Gracie. But I will admit that after it had been intermittent for a few days I was less grateful and more one big grrrr. If only I'd thought to make my tea over a tealight!

  21. Lovely photos Gracie and the bunnies are so cut. I've never tried making a cup of tea that way - must remember it - just in case -you never know. Looks like we are in for more rain tomorrow - I don't mind too much I don't need to go out so I shall do a few chores in the morning and some crafting in the afternoon. Hugs Anne x

  22. I'm so glad the yarn found the right home. And thank you for the lovely photos of Mt. Hood and of the fall colors. It was indeed some cold snap, for Oregon. Your tea-making feat reminds me that one summer an enterprising visitor to our (dryer-less) house had no dry underpants, but ironed a damp pair dry! Persistence paid off in both cases.

  23. Hi Gracie, I'm loving your bunnies and I'm impressed by your ingenuity about the tea light tea :0)
Those leaves are stunning...especially the bright pink....I don't think I've seen any that colour before.

  24. If you hadn't pointed it out, I'd have mistaken Mt Hood for a cloud!

I love the bunnies, they're so cute :-) It's cool that you got some wool all the way from Scotland too!

I can't say I've ever tried to make tea with a tea light (haha funny!) but needs must :) x

  25. Hi Gracie, The autumn colours you have shown us are incredible - so bright. What a good idea to make a longing cup of tea with a night light. I have often kept coffee warm over a night light but never tried it the other way! I'm sure you are enjoying having your youngest son home even if it not for too long. Sarah x
