Untangled at Home

Monday night, July1, 2013, my oldest sister, Carolyn and I arrived back in Oregon.  It was a great trip, but it feels soooo good to me to be home after being away for a month!

While I was at Carolyn's house in Sonoma, CA, I was told by my young friend, Rachael,  that I was teaching a crochet class!  Really?  Me? I was so excited, although anxious, because I am still learning how to crochet myself even after over 40 years of practicing :-) [Rachel had no idea that I had been admiring Mellie and Jo for teaching crochet classes, and secretly wishing I could do so, too!] We had a great time sitting around Rachel and her husband, Ralph's table learning to chain and eventually try to make single crochets.  More practice needed :-)

Before we started driving north to OR, Carolyn and I both succeeded in untangling the tangle I typed about and showed you in my last post. Woohoo!  I really enjoyed and appreciated the experiences and opinions some of you shared with me about how you handle tangles!  Thanks!

One of the cars we followed north from Sonoma to OR looked  like a mechanical moose so I had to take a picture to share with you :-) but our favorite views on the drive were the ocean around  Crescent City, CA. We also really enjoyed seeing the Crescent City and the Umpqua lighthouses.

Since I've been home:   I washed off the shells, driftwood, and rocks and agates we collected on Crescent Beach, and arranged them for you to enjoy looking at, too.  Aren't they pretty?   Did you notice the tiny sand dollar?  After a month away, it  seems to me that Mt. Hood looks a little less like a snow cone as the weather continues to be warm.  We have geraniums blooming and cherries the size of cranberries are plopping from our wild cherry tree. We had a big family and friend gathering here last night to celebrate the birth of the USA and tonight we are picking up my great niece, Katie, who is flying in from Nebraska to visit for a week! Happy Days!

Wishing you Happy Days as well!
Gracie xx :-)

  7. So much fun!!....and so really lovely photos. Congrats on your crochet class. Do you think that you will look around to teach some more? Perhaps in your neighbourhood? I know I was so keen to find somebody to teach me how to crochet when I started last year. YouTube was good but I would have liked to sit around a table with a chance to chat and try out and a ready pair of hands when I made a blip! I hope that you're settling back home OK now. Joan

  9. Hi Gracie!!!!!! I am so happy to hear you finally made it home.....I've missed you! Teaching a crochet class is so much fun....I love the fact your friend Rachel's husband was so involved in it also...he looks well deep in thought! "). Love your little collection of seashells and such. I always make a run down to the beach where my mom lives each year and bring home driftwood pieces the size of the back of my truck and coconuts the size of watermelons....where that stuff comes from we have no idea for there isn't a palm tree in sight! SO HAPPY YOUR HOME!........xo Shari!

  10. Welcome home, Gracie! Thanks for all the photos. I love the Umpqua lighthouse ones, and Mt. Hood of course, and your crochet class... Lots of happy times there. I think I see the little sand dollar. There aren't such things in Scotland, although there is a cafe on the beach in Aberdeen called the Sand dollar Cafe. I have a little box of agates we collected on our last trip to the Oregon coast. Sigh!

  12. Big welcome home Gracie!
Lots of lovely pics and I love your 'beachcomber's delights'! And good to know you untangled your tangle - patience is a virtue!!!
I'm very happy for you that you enjoyed your first crochet teaching class - the first of many I'm sure - and I loved studying the faces as they concentrated on the job at hand; isn't it so nice to see a male having a go!
Enjoy your great-niece's visit - I hope it's a wonderful week for you!

  13. My My MY what a fabulous trip you have had....miles and miles. I have thoroughly enjoyed this virtual tour of some of the places you have been to. It's so very interesting. Thanks so much for sharing. I also for a moment hesitated over all these photos of people crocheting .....for a moment there I thought you had all your family doing it. I was imagining some giant project!! However I am just as delighted to see you have become a crochet instructor and you are spreading the word. Good for you!

Thanks you so much for your delightful comments about my recent posts.

    keep well

    Amanda :-)

  14. Great photos Gracie! Thanks for the mention. I clicked on Mellie to see what she was up to as this is a new link for me and she lives in the Midlands in the UK too and I recognised lots of people and places in her blog posts. One click to US northwest lead me to 30 miles within my own town. Amazing! Your lessons looked great and covering so many generations! The only man I have taught is my bloke and he is a lefty so he needs more practise. Glad you have had a lovely time with friends and family. Jo x

  22. Looks like you had a great time. Gorgeous photos! Love the collection of rocks and shells and how you displayed them. I will be leaving in 12 days for the States and will be away for a month. Haven't been to the States in 3 years and definitely not looking forward to the long plane trip over. Hopefully everything will fall into place once we are there. Best wishes, Tammy
