The Course of Fall

There were so many days in a row with only a trace of rain here I almost entitled this post, Parched Portland, but compared to many places even our driest seems moist and cool.  Today the rain is gently falling, the heater is running, and I have my Homespun prayer shawl about me as I type to you.  Last Sunday afternoon we drove around some of the back roads to our house.  We stopped and bought two bouquets of dahlias and daises from a farm stand...perhaps the last we will have this season.  When we got home we walked around the ponds that are just grassy puddles now, although a stream of water is still rippling through the brush.  It was a perfect day to enjoy swinging and strolling and staring at the wondrous sights around us before settling in to the comforts of hearth and home.
Are you having happy autumn days?  I hope so :)  xx from Gracie

  1. Autumn is such a pretty time of year. Looks like the kids were enjoying themselves on the swings. The hearth and flowers look cozy and your rug, looks familiar, looks very similar to the one I have in my dining room! Have a wonderful weekend. Heather

We have had an incredible autumn haven't we? Good for children and adults too:) I missed it today as I dug out a pair of sweat pants, but I know we really need it...
A prayer shawl? I LOVE that idea!

  7. What a lovely set of photographs, it seems that your autumn is taking a similar course to ours at the moment. Isn't it perfect weather for woolly crafts?

  8. Beautiful photographs, the fall colours on the trees are eye-popping.

Hope you are having a cosy and relaxing fall day today - I went out to town with my daughter this morning and as it was a little chilly we dropped into a chocolate shop for hot chocolate - such a treat!

  13. Lovely photos, Gracie. The fall colors are spectacular but my favourite is the girls reading together. Here we are snug inside while the rain batters the windows!

All of your images are gorgeous. We are loving our fall colors here. THey originally predicted a poor color season due to our drought, but it seems they were wrong!

  16. I love seeing the changing colors and that wonderful fire! Here in my area, it's NOT autumn yet. 80s and 90s all week. However, the calender tells me it's October.

  17. Hi Gracie,

Such beautiful colors in your pictures. You are quite the photographer these days. I can feel the warmth of your cozy fire, and, after visiting your home, can imagine sitting there with you, sharing a cup of tea.

I'm still here in Portland and we took little Miss Piper for her two week check today. She's growing quickly and I'm loving the "Grandma" cuddles I'm getting to have with her.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy the rain.

    Blessings,
    Betsy
