Tomato Time

This is the picture I posted May 31, 2012, of our  test garden site for planter boxes we want to put somewhere in 2013. Our neighbor predicted we would not get any tomatoes because there was not enough sun in this spot....sigh....
September 11, 2012, I snapped this photo of my oldest grand girl running to report to me that we had some RED tomatoes!!  But our neighbor was probably right that this spot may not get enough sun.  Even though the plants were in fertile soil and were watered regularly, the plants look practically the same size they were three months ago!!!
But we are thankful for and enjoying the red, orange, and yellow tomatoes that have grown.  Quite a few of them never made it into the house because we just HAD to taste them to make sure they were ripe : )

I can't send you any tomatoes, but remember that I plan to send one of you the giveaway below on September 30, 2012, if you leave a comment and want to have a chance for me to draw your name.
Until then I have more to post to you because we just got back from a few days with family and friends in the San Francisco Bay area. I am wondering, "How is your creative life  growing?"  xxx from Gracie

  2. They look pretty good to me Gracie and I bet they taste fabulous!
I killed our one and only tomato plant this summer because of a lack of love (AKA watering). However, the demise of our plant made my neighbor very happy as she knew where to find homes (ours) for all her extra tomatoes:)

  3. There is nothing like home grown tomatoes, is there? Did you fertilize them? If you get chickens you can use the manure on them next year! :-) Glad you're home.. see you on Thursday! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  4. Hi Gracie. Looks like you got quite a few nice tomatoes there. I just read your comment on my blog. It was even hot it San Francisco I hear!! At least, the last couple of nights have cooled off nicely!!
Oh, you mentioned us going to Bass Lake. We do love Bass Lake. I grew up going there every summer, and have been taking my family there for years. But the lake we go to every weekend is Big Bear Lake. It is only an hour away from our home. And Bass Lake is about 5 hours away. I wish it were closer, because we love it so much. But we love Big Bear Lake too. We will be retiring to the local mountains in about 8 years or so.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  5. Such beautiful tomatoes! Wonderful gardening. :) I love the photos - they just fill me with joy. Gardening has taken over my heart, and I think it's making me a better person. I especially love sharing the process with family and friends, as you have.

  8. I am very jealous of your tomatoes. This year mine have been a disaster. I will have to wait another year for 'Tomato and Chilli' Jam. It is probably a reflection of my gardening skills too, I have success with things one year and not the next. A glut of turnips was quite hard to get through! The kids hated them and I would try, without success to disguise them. You can never have too many tomatoes though. xxx

  9. There's nothing more delicious than homegrown tomatoes! Enjoy!

My creative life is . . . disorganized, but I feel a surge of creativity coming on as Fall settles in. Thanks for being a bloggy friend.

    xx,
    Jenny

  10. Hello Gracie the tomatoes look lovely and there are quite a few so you didn't do too badly. This year I tried potatoes and lettuce. Last year had great success but was not too be this year- we have had too much rain and not a lot of sunshine. I have managed to knit another beautiful red outfit for the 'fish and chip' babies, started a blanket for Africa, made some cards and need to start baking in readiness for my granddaughters birthday cakes. love Anne x

  11. The tomatoes look lovely and you seem to have had quite a good crop despite your neighbour's prediction! Sometimes there can be too many! They are lovely to collect with the grandchildren aren't they? Such fun for them to discover things growing and being able to pick them!
Wishing you a happy day, Gracie.

  12. Hello Gracie .. Dorothy from Australia here - just popped over from Teresa's blog to say hello. Those tomatoes look pretty darned good - we're having to pay $8.99 per kilo for them here at the moment so needless to say, I haven't had a tomato in ages. Your blog looks really nice - wish I was game enough to change mine from the dreadful pink to something nicer. Have a lovely weekend. xoxox

  13. We had so much rain this summer that everyone here had problems with their tomatoes. I would say at least 80% of mine burst before they were even ripe enough to pick. I would say a hundred tomatoes went to veggie heaven :(
