Dahlia Days

Saturday, on the way home from a wedding dress fitting, my daughters spotted a roadside stand selling Dahlias, so they bought several bouquets for us all to enjoy.  I wondered if the Dahlias came from the field across from Teresa's farm. Then Sunday afternoon we drove south to Canby, OR, to enjoy the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival at the fairgrounds.  I want to try to crochet some pumpkins and squash so I bought a couple of balls of yarn.  I was excited to find a drive band cord for my youngest daughter's spinning wheel, too!  I bumped into some friends from California there which was great fun!  And when I got home and checked my blog I found some comments from some new and some old blog friends!  Thanks so much for visiting!  On September 30, 2012,  I will be drawing a commenter's name in celebration of my first year of blogging; and in thanks for their visit and comments I will be sending them  a  gift.  Will you be the one who will receive a gift?  xxx from Gracie

    Hi Gracie! How did I miss leaving a comment on your last post? OH.. I know.. way too busy with the flock and fiber festival and having a 3 year old to entertain!!     Lovely photos Grace. Looks as though you had a lovely time at the flock and fibre festival - quite a while since I went to one. Gorgeous yarn you bought look forward to seeing what you make. Love the dahlias - think I also wrote on Teresa's blog that they remind me of my dad- he loved them and did grow them in the garden. Cute flock of sheep you have there. Love Anne x

      I wonder if there is a fiber festival near you, Jenny. I have lived in this area for five years and continue to bump into crafty folk and festivities new to me which is great fun. I am off to coax my crochet hook to make a pumpkin, and I still have not given up on knitting a tomato :) xx Gracie

      Thanks for the link, Amber! I have never tried to felt anything before, but that looks like it could be fun, and interestingly, Lis just mentioned she had the tools to do felting, so maybe she will let her mom try them out(: Let me know if you and Ryleigh give the pattern a try.

      Welcome, Claire! Thanks so much for visiting and for posting yourself! When I was first married someone gave me a dahlia bulb which I planted and when it bloomed I was so excited! I have moved many times and only tried one other time to plant dalias which sadly did not bloom:( Now living in a spot near fields of gorgeous dahlias, I am appreciating them anew and grateful that others are successfully growing and sharing them :)

      We tried drying some lavender-blue hydrangeas unsuccessfully, so now we are hoping to be able to purchase some spider mums, and carnations that we can fashion into bouquets. I am definitely looking forward to seeing your pictures of what you gathered together, Linda!

    I never made it to OFFF--it was the same weekend as the Sauvie Island Historical Festival and I was always a vender there. Someday...
