The second week of Advent sped by with a blast from the Arctic~~~~~Brrrrrrr, but today it was a balmy 45F with a light rain. As the rain hit the ice on the ponds, a mist rose from the ponds, shrouding the area in fog.
Other than venturing out to swim for an hour on Wednesday, and meeting with some women friends from church Thursday morning for our Bible study group, and meeting my friend Fran for lunch today, I have been home. It is good to have time to be cozy at home, and I am enjoying crocheting little Christmas wreath ornaments. The ones I have made so far this year I have used size five crochet thread and a size D crochet hook to create. I single crocheted around a one inch or a two inch plastic ring until the ring was covered. For the next round I put the hook through a single crochet and chained seven then slip stitched in the next single crochet and repeated until I circled the ring. I cut about a four inch tail and tied a loop from which to hang the wreath, but the next one I make I think I will form about a four inch chain and attach it to the base of the chain to form a loop. I formed tiny bows from 1/4 inch wide ribbon and attached the bow to the wreath with a stitch using a needle and thread.
I realize that not all those around me including family members and friends celebrate Christmas or relate to God through Christ, but I especially enjoy the symbolism of an evergreen wreath which reminds me that I believe that Christ came to earth to rescue individuals from self-destruction and empower each to have eternal life with God forever.
Do you have a symbol that is especially meaningful to you?
