Ahoy! Welcome to a view of the biggest Bird House gourd growing on the trellis on my patio. It has been great fun to watch the gourd develop over the last few months. Will it grow large enough for a bird to call it home?
This view of the gourd gave me hope...the sky is the limit!
The last gathering of cucumbers from the vines helped me feel hopeful as well, and gave me enough cucumbers to share with neighbors!
Then this last week I decided to try to measure the gourd and gauge if it is big enough for a bird nest. It is about six inches long, perhaps if it is hollowed out it could support a hummingbird nest!
A friend took my measurements a few years ago and knit this vest freehand for me! I enjoyed wearing it to a meeting recently and several of the ladies admired it and my friend's talented knitting and design, as do I...such a generous kind gift.
The crocheted baby blanket I have been putting a few rows on each week is growing and I am enjoying the wavey edging I am creating by starting each row with two chains.
I tried a new recipe, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Puffs. They are a lightweight cookie, a type of meringue that is both crisp and chewy and gluten-free and dairy-free. If you are interested in trying the recipe let me know in the comments and I will post the recipe in the next post.
Have you done a measure of crafting lately?

Hello dear Gracie! I sure enjoyed your post tonight. I'm so glad I checked online just before heading off to bed. Your birdhouse gourd is going to make a hummingbird very happy next spring. Or do you have hummers all year on the west side? Your new vest is stunning and it has PURPLE in it! Obviously your friend knows you well. Oh, how I miss meeting with you and visiting in person. One of my goals is to see you next year at some point, somehow, sometime.
ReplyDeleteYour baby blanket is coming along great. It will be a wonderful blanket for a sweet little baby.
I hope all is well you you my dear friend.
Blessings, love and hugs,
Betsy
Hey great to see you again Gracie. Fabulous vest lucky you. That Gourd looks great and would love to see Hummingbirds Take care 😀😀
ReplyDeleteI'd love the recipe for these cookies, I like meringues and I love cookies, best of both worlds. The gourd is impressive. Is it edible? I tried growing cucumbers but the West of Scotland is not good for cucumber growing without green house. You lovely so lovely with your knitted vest, I like the style very much. It is a perfect layering pieces for the autumn, isn't it? Have a good weekend. Cx
ReplyDeleteGood to see your monthly post Gracie! Very nice vest—your friend is quite talented to knit it freehand! Your new baby blanket reminds me, in ways, of one of my son’s blankets made years ago of course. I would love to see the recipe for the cookies as we are thinking I might have to go gluten free…

ReplyDeleteThere was a vendor at the Quilt show yesterday who painted the lower half of the gourds and then added several rows of pine needles weaving to rim--just beautiful!

How well you look Gracie and I do like that sleeveless jacket. Gorgeous colours! I don’t think I have ever seen such a big gourd so I am sure it will make a good birds house. Beautiful clematis the colour of which matches your vest. Those puffs look delicious and we do like peanut butter in this household. I would like the recipe please. Keep well. Amanda x
