Five on Friday: Progress!

Hi!  I hope this finds you enjoying the season of life you are in!  It has been mostly a good busy week here in Boring, Oregon, USA, except that several of us in our household have been fighting off viruses.

One thing I enjoyed this past week was sewing together fifteen patches on a Featherweight Singer sewing machine...the first time in many years I have tried to use any sewing machine.  The squares are practice squares I cut several years ago with a rotary cutter, and I need more practice cutting, and stitching on the machine.  I pieced together a backing and have stuffed some polyester fiber in to form a pillow shape but not sewn up the end yet. I had it stuffed firmly at first and decided I did not like that so I took out some stuffing, but am afraid it will shift around too much. Since this is a practice piece I will probably stitch it up and call it good enough.
Secondly, I am halfway through knitting another preemie blanket using 100% acrylic yarn in the Beachy colorway. Where my knitting needle is pointing I did four rows of purl stitches thinking I would get a flat section after knitting all the other rows...but I did not...a mystery I can not get my brain around.
Thirdly, I had fun filling in some more pages of my Leaves of Promise album I started years ago.
Fourthly, I knit two small [35 stitches in the center row] Grandma's washcloths using size 3 needles and size 3 100% cotton Lizbeth thread while watching a video about Tiny Houses, and then watching some of the first episodes of Fixer Upper on HGTV. I just read "The Magnolia Story" by the stars of the show and was interested in how their lives progressed to bring them to produce their program.
Fifthly, my oldest son texted me a recent photo of my two wonderful growing grandsons who I visited two years ago back in NY at this time of year. How can time fly by so fast? Kenny is now in middle school and Aron will be in two more years!
As I join, thanks to Amy in her Five on Friday Link again on her blog, Love Made My Home I am wondering...
Have you been making any progress this week?

Gracie xx

  2. Your pillow looks lovely, I can't sew a straight seam so if I tried it wouldn't be anywhere as neat. I love the colours of the preemie blanket, perhaps if you had knit the rows instead of purl you would have a flat section but I wouldn't worry it's lovely as it is, have a great weekend. :) x

  4. Aww love seeing those happy little faces of your sweet Grandsons. So adorable. :) Oh I love your quilt. It's very pretty. As for the knitting, I love that, too. You always have pretty and fun projects. I love the leaf journal. It gives me ideas to start one of my own. As fall has swept her way into our town now the leaves are falling and this would be a great way to capture them...and to give praise to Him. Thank you kind friend for the idea. Wishing you a lovely day filled with much joy and many blessings. :)

  18. Bravo on making your quilted pillow on your new vintage Singer Featherweight! I do hope you show us a photo of your new machine.. I bet it's so cute in your cozy room! 20. You've made some very pretty things, Gracie. The pillow fabric with the sailboats is lovely and blends well with the others you've chosen. Your grandsons are handsome fellows!

  21. What cute boys! How sweet they look and I know you're looking forward to seeing them again. That's what us Grandma's do isn't it? I'm so disappointed to not see you today but I enjoyed reading about all of your projects. You've been busy! Love the pillow and the washcloths. Doing four rows of garter stitch is like doing four rows of knit stitch...you still get bumpy rows every other row. Did that make sense? I hope everyone is on the road to recovery at your house now. I miss you sweet Gracie.
    Blessings always,
    Betsy

  22. Love the fabrics and colors in the pillow. I never learned to sew but wish I had. Your blanket yarn actually matches the pillow colors. Lovely washcloths and sounds like a great day of watching shows. I love tiny homes and fixer upper programs. Your grandboys are super cute. Trying to get back to daily drawing here but so far failing. I can't seem to stick to anything. I did finally complete my v-stitch baby blanket so now can move on to something else. Have a good weekend. Tammy

  24. It sounds as if you've had a busy and productive week. I love the mixed colours in your yarn. When I've finished my latest crocheted blanket I would like to start something with that kind of pretty yarn. Thank you for sharing your makes and the photo of your grandsons. I hope you keep free from coughs and colds. All the best for the week ahead.

  30. So, we're both trying to get back into patchwork, I see. I love your colors, Gracie. I decided to hand quilt my pillow instead of quiting while i was ahead LOL. Love your dish cloths and preemie blanket - you
    have been a busy lady!

  31. Two adorable little boys. Yes, they grow up quickly.... in a blink of the eye. Fun washcloths -- great color. I like the beachy color way, too. It will make a very pretty blanket. I like the colors in your pillow -- I'm partial to blue. Have a lovely week and get well!

  32. Great sewing Gracie, my sewing skills lack in every area. Your grandsons are adorable, but don't tell the middle schooler that, he won't like that at all. As for the knitting, if you knit every row, or purl every row you will get the same affect. To get a flat surface you have to knit a row and purl the next and keep going. Hope that helps or maybe I misread your problem.

Hope you have a wonderful week,
    Meredith

  33. I love the pillow you have created and the square showing the yacht. That's a lovely picture of your grandsons. Children grow up so fast and you notice the difference so much more when you don't see them every day. Wishing you a happy week. Sarah x

  35. Progress? Yes, in many areas--mostly knitting projects, but I also am cleaning a bit each day as I can (fall cleaning in installments).
Your patches are perfect for you! Blues of the ocean and sailboats...
