"I started photographing my domestic world and writing not just about what I had made,
but why I made it, examining the thoughts that accompany creativity and the act of making."

Zooooming with the iPhone 4S*****

Finally, I am experimenting with the zoom feature on my iPhone 4S  Zippity do dah !!!
[one of my fuzzy first attempts]

It is a different way to see the world around me . . .
up close and personal.

These are the first cherry blossoms of 2012 I've seen on the tree outside my bedroom window.
In the news this morning I read that there might be damaging ice and snow at various East coast locations in the USA.
The Google Doodle today is bursting with colorful blooms in honor of  Earth Day.

Challenges contend for attention, or corrupt the view,
but they also offer a jarring jolting contrast that propels me to look for and nurture and
celebrate beauty that is up close and personal around me.

What is beautiful up close and personal around you today?

  1. Gracie, what you said about challenges is so poignant and true. I think life's challenges are what give rise to appreciation and gratitude. Some of the most thoughtful and joyful people I've met in my life, have experienced (seemingly) unbearable challenges. (And on the contrary, some very flippant and self-centered types have had no problems while cruising through life.) I try to appreciate all of life's mystery. I try to remember what Gibran said about Joy and Sorrow: 'when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.' It's one big tragi-comedy, and it's beautiful if we can do as you suggested: "look for and nurture and celebrate beauty that is up close and personal..." I love that so much. And of course, your photos are so lovely...

  2. I'm sure you'll have as much fun learning about your iPhone 4S as I'm having with mine. I love the fact that you don't have to think about putting a camera in your bag on the off chance you might want to take a pic. Of course the phone comes everywhere with me. The pictures I put on my blog post today were all taken with the 4S. Have fun !!!

  4. Hello Grace just catching up as we were away again in Yorkshire visiting my eldest son and family. We had a lovely time with them all and very up close and personal - I love being with my grandchildren. Also love being with rest of my family of course and enjoy wlaks in the countryside (beautiful in Yorkshire) gardens and parks and enjoying nature. Your photos are beautiful. I meant to take phototgraphs of all the beautiful blossom I can see from my lounge window but fear I have left it too long as we have had a lot of rain earlier and a lot more is forecast. Take care Anne x
