"I started photographing my domestic world and writing not just about what I had made,
but why I made it, examining the thoughts that accompany creativity and the act of making."

Following Pumpkins and Crocheting Leaves

Sunday, October, 11, my youngest son drove my youngest daughter and me  to visit the church he joined in Milwaukie, Oregon.  On the way home driving on 212 east toward Mt. Hood we found ourselves following a trailer full of pumpkins!
The day before we had rain in the valley, so I was surprised to see a fresh coat of snow on Mt. Hood!
You know how you think about making gifts for...everyone...and realize you don't have enough time to make something very big?  Well I was looking at a pattern to make a heart and wondered if I could turn it into a leaf, and ended up making three leafy bookmarks :)  If you want to know how I did it, just ask, please.
This past Saturday, October 17th, I was invited to have High Tea with a group of ladies from the church I've been attending. Our hostess, Carol, has collected dishes and linens and recipes and loves to serve others by serving tea. She prepared four courses and typed out menus for us. [ The invitation and menu are on the table in photo after the next two.] But it was not a formal affair. Jeans and tennis shoes were worn by some...and no hats!  After the third course she invited us to stroll with her around the small sweet gardens she and her husband have grown around their home.  It was both charming and inspiring to see her artistry with plants and mosaics and benches, a bird bath, bird feeder, birdhouse and fountains, up cycling inexpensive items...taking someone's trash and turning it into her treasure.
After the fourth course of tea I headed across town to shop and then met my friends Teresa and her husband, Dayle, and Betsy, and her husband, Dennis, for a good visit and dinner at Tad's Chicken 'n Dumplins along the Sandy River.
My youngest daughter has been letting me use her cone of autumnal toned cotton yarn to make leaves and I am dreaming of what to make with the lovely soft gray Billow cotton yarn I was given.  Two books that I have started reading this week [don't ask me how many books I have bookmarks in :) ] are pictured above as well.
And while I am typing about books, I was happy to get an email from Amazon today, letting me know that I can now order Helen's new book. Hurray! I'm still not getting paid to advertise anything; I'm just sharing things that interest me and I think might interest you :)

Thank you for all your well wishes.  I am well, and as soon as I was I got a flu shot to help me stay well!

Have you been following pumpkins or crocheting leaves or strolling through gardens or reading interesting books?
