Five on Friday: Fall Around Here

One: After swimming on Monday, my friend, Teresa, and I went to Jonsrud Viewpoint in nearby Sandy, Oregon, to try to take some photos of Mt. Hood with our cell phones.
Two: Using the zoom on my cell phone I snapped this so that you could get a better look at the new snow on Mt. Hood.  Mt. Hood had been hiding under valley rain clouds for days and I was hoping the mountain was collecting some snow, and it was!
Three: On the way home I stopped at a grocery store in Sandy, Oregon, and had to take some photos of the gorgeous trees in a nearby parking lot so that you can enjoy looking at them, too.
Four: After swimming on Wednesday I remembered to go out to our apple tree and pick some more apples before the next series of rain storms.
Five: A new rain storm rolled in today, but we braved the storm to go to the roller skating rink in Gresham so that my oldest daughter and her four oldest girls could skate with thankfully little falling. Most of my photos were blurry due to the girl's speed, but I managed to catch Joy happily still enough for a moment :)

My days have rolled by rapidly this week, with some crocheting and knitting and fiddling with a Featherweight sewing machine.  I've gathered with several groups from church, done some reading in "The Writing on the Wall" by Elizabeth Mattox...a mystery set on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. I am working my way through a new to me Beth Moore Bible study, and I am asking the Lord for mercy and love for those in harms way around the world...trying to think of practical ways I can help...

Thanks to Amy, I am posting this on her Love Made My Home, Five on Friday link, and I am looking forward to doing some blog reading to discover what is new with some of you.

Are you doing any skating through this season of your life?

Gracie xx

  1. Mt. Hood looks beautiful and impressive! Lucky you living in such sceneries. Autumn colors are great, here they have already gone.
I haven't been skating on ice in years, donated even my skaters to granddaughter :) But it is fun, enjoy with your pretty daughter!

  2. How lovely to see the snow on top of Mt Hood once again. It seems a little early for snow. Wonderful that you are able to enjoy some of the activities with your family creating some treasured memories I am sure. It has been awhile since we went skating we try to avoid anything to active so we don't exclude my sweet husband. A great five.

  4. The temp here this morning is only 31F so technically we, too, could have snow. But I'm just not ready for that yet! It looks like you had a lovely week :) I hope you can stop by:

  6. Such lovely photos and so happy to see the red trees. In Missouri, we're just starting to show color.

Roller skating used to be very popular when I was a girl, but of course, that was long before the techie age, so we found time to go to the rink.

  8. I enjoyed reading about your week Gracie. I remember you taking me to Jonsrud viewpoint to see Mt. Hood in all of it's beauty. I picked several bags of apples last week at the lake garden and made applesauce with some and shared a lot with people at Bible study last night. Just a few left for Dennis to munch on. See you soon!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I have a big box of apples to make more applesauce. Not sure but maybe tomorrow. We do have a gas stove so it's doable even if we lose power. Days are skating by fast with work and keeping up with the house. Phil and I go to a Bible study together now. It's talking about the sermon from previous Sunday. 5 of us but good anyway. Beth Moore studies are good. Stay warm and dry my friend as we brace for the storm. Will see how it goes! Hugs!

  11. It was fun to go to the viewpoint with you, Gracie. I bet it was fun to see your daughter and granddaughters skating.. I never did well with ice or roller skating as I had weak ankles. Your apples look better than the ones on our tree. We're getting wind gusts.. how are you faring at your house? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  13. Those are great photos from your cell phone. Fresh snow is so pretty. It's windy and wet here today, too, with more to come for tomorrow, I hear. I'm glad for a warm, dry home. Skating always seemed like a lot of fun, but I never enjoyed it as a child or teenager and was glad to hang up my skates permanently. I never felt comfortable on ice. Swimming - now that's more my forte.
    Have a good weekend.

  14. Gorgeous photos of Mt. Hood. I lived on skates and a skateboard when I was 11 and 12 years old. Hope the storms I heard about on the news that were coming your way didn't cause too much damage. Take care!

  17. Mt. Hood is gorgeous. Beautiful trees (and parking lot)! Must be nice to have your own apple trees. Apple trees bring sweet memories to me ... growing up in New Mexico and going to Dixon apple farm each year to have a picnic, drink apple cider and bring home apples of all kinds. You are busy! Have a lovely week.

  21. It's all looking very fall-like by you, Gracie. I loved seeing those trees, especially. How nice that your daughter took all her big girls roller-skating. My kids have never been but I think they'd really like it. I hope you all came out okay in the storm. Take care and have a good week!

    1. We were on the edge of the storms and just had a big branch from our neighbor's tree fall on our mutual fence, but no major damage. The tornados were north and west of us.

  22. I read above that you have the iPhone 7Plus - amazing photos, especially the zoom in of Mt. Hood. Wishing now I'd waited for the 7 to come out as I upgraded to a 6S when my contract was up. Love the line of brilliant trees, we are certainly graced with autumn beauty.

    1. So far they are disappearing one by one, but some may end up in an apple crisp 🙂

  26. Thank you Gracie for those beautiful photos. Of course as always my heart lifts to see Mt. Hood, especially with her winter coat (or start of), and those russet trees are equally wonderful. But - Joy! that photo shows she lives up to her name alright. I agree with you about the need for prayer for all those who are suffering. It is overwhelming. But I believe God is with them.

  27. Just popping by to say hello. beautiful photos. DH and I just back from a visit to mum in Somerset followed by a week in Cornwall - beautiful weather - we were lucky. It was a much needed break - mum continues to be up and down health wise and there are all sorts of strains and stresses but I try to keep up with everything. Hugs Anne x

  28. I've actually never skated in my life! But it looks like fun. Maybe (just maybe) I'll have to try it out someday. I have a feeling that someday should be a day I don't mind getting a few scrapes and bruises though! Mt. Hood is looking good. Great photo, and the trees are gorgeous! Enjoy your apples.
