Seeing in the New Season

Mr. Robin was peeking into our home the other day to supervise our autumnal activities.

My oldest granddaughter, Hayley, helped me gather some leaves for me to iron between sheets of waxed paper. The leaves in the photo are what they looked like after I ironed them.  In theory the wax from the waxed paper transferred to the leaves while I was ironing and should help the leaves retain their colors and not dry so rapidly. Then Hayley, Molly and Joy stuck the leaves onto the dining room window so that we can enjoy their pretty Fall colors for the next few months.

To celebrate the new season, I put out my basket full of crocheted pumpkins and a squash, and changed the tablecloth, but I haven't hung up the autumn wreath outside yet...maybe tomorrow.

My blogging friend, Willow, shared a link that gave some ideas how to make a homemade pumpkin spice latte, and I am experimenting with my own version with almond milk.  If you want to know my recipe, I'll share it with you in my next post.  Mmmmm :)

I have been enjoying making more progress crocheting my Ruby Shawl, and hope to finish it this season!

I'm enjoying seeing the  pampas grass in our front yard  waving flags of celebration in honor of Fall.

And looking at this photo I took with my iPhone 6 at the intersection of Highway 26 and Oregon 212 on my way home from swimming at the gym on Monday, I am imagining that Mt. Hood is enjoying overseeing the seasonal changes as well.

Are you enjoying seeing seasonal changes around you?

Gracie xx

  1. Yes I love the fall colors coming and crunch of leaves underneath my feet. Need to make sure they don't come inside with me! I like your Ruby shawl! I saw some yarn yesterday that would be cute for a baby boy's hat that I could knit. Two ladies at our church are having baby boys soon and that would be a fun little gift to make. I'm hoping and praying Mt Hood gets a good blanket of snow on it this year! Hugs and a good fall week to you my friend!

  2. I just love photos taken in your wonderful room full of creative things, books, collections and children's artistic adventures! You're a wonderful grandmama. Your shawl is looking very close to being done.. when will you begin on the lacy edging? I'm so jealous of your pampas grass.. I've wanted some for the longest time! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. The temperatures are rather cool in the morning and then drop again early evening, a sure sign of the seasonal change plus of course the obvious changing colour of leaves and the ploughing of fields. I love your beautiful room too, such a wonderful feast for the eyes. I am rather intrigued as to how you iron the leaves, sounds like it would make a stunning window display.

  10. I love seeing everyone's beginning-of-fall photos! Your pumpkin latte sounds delicious. I would love to know how you make yours. I always have either hot coffee or tea several times a day during fall and winter. Your place is looking nice and cozy. Love your Ruby Shawl and the blue and white granny blanket too! I made a shawl from that same Serenity Garden yarn.

  11. Hello my sweet Gracie! I'm behind reading blogs today because it's been a busy, busy morning and I have Physical Therapy this afternoon, but I'm so glad I plopped myself down to catch up because here you are! I love the glimpses into your cozy home and remembering drinking tea and knitting with you there. It's so, so, so cozy. I see lots of wonderful projects going on with the girls and the shawl is coming along beautifully. Enjoy these crisp fall days my friend.

  14. Hello Gracie, I'm visiting from Lancashire in the UK. I do love reading US blogs as I've always longed to live there! I'm looking forward to your latte recipe and haven't tried the leaves with waxed paper thing but it sounds like something I'd try...
Autumn's definitely here. Cobwebs, berries, mist, hazelnuts, woodsmoke. I love this time of year best of all.
    Sarah.

  16. I love how you are welcoming in Fall Gracie. It is so far away for us still. Just when you are bursting with color we will finally be out of the 90's! I miss the color changes, the crisp air and the feel of dried leaves under my feet. Oh and that Autumn smell, there is nothing like it.
    Hugs to you,

  19. Yea, an autumn post! Great photo of the robin bird! Around here I've noticed a lot more bird activity since the weather cooled a bit and the seasonal changes began. The other day, a bunch of them landed in our bird bath--it was quite enjoyable to watch:)
I am going to have to do the whole waxed paper-pressed leaf thing this year. I love the colors I am seeing and want them to stay around for a long time.
    Blessings,
    Aimee

  23. Love the photo of Mount Hood -- and your shawl.
It's still quite summery here and I'm planning to enjoy it before the weather changes. Fall here tends to be quick!

  24. Besides missing GREEN, I do miss the seasonal changes, too. Everything always looks the same and right now it's still hot. Love the little robin peeking in and the pressed leaves. Pumpkin latte - yum! I look forward to the recipe. Your shawl is lovely!

  25. Yes, savouring a bit of belated summer warmth but also chilly mornings with condensation on the windows. I love your robin, though it looks huge compared to a British robin! I've been hearing the sharp chirp of the robins very often as I go about. I would be very interested in making my own pumpkin spice latte too, if I can get the ingredients here! Your granddaughters are lovely, and what a joy to be doing seasonal things with them. The ruby shawl is also gorgeous. Thanks for the peeks of Mt. Hood!
