Crafting In Season

Welcome to our front porch which is crafting the transitional days from summer to fall by sporting a little burgundy chrysanthemum :)
Come in and see what some members of our household have been crafting: dill pickles, blackberry jam, carrot cake jam, and tomato sauce.  Mmmmmmmm :)
With serious concentration, my older granddaughters and I recently crafted some plastic bead ornaments for Christmas.
The older girls are also crafting [seriously :) ]  some fall birthday presents with their knitting spools,  under their mom's, my oldest daughter's supervision.
On  USA Labor Day, I finished crafting a baby blanket for a baby in the local neonatal unit.  It was fun knitting the blanket with the Bernet Baby Floral Rose acrylic yarn, then crocheting a border until I had used the whole skein of yarn.
My youngest daughter stopped by a local roadside flower stand and brought home these gorgeous dahlias, crafting an end of summer beginning of fall decoration for our dinner table.
When I was out and about several days ago I was surprised to see this tree already crafting so much fall color in a shopping center in Sandy, Oregon.
Then yesterday evening I was so glad a few blocks from our house to once more be able to get this zoomed in view of Mt. Hood.  Mt. Hood was not shrouded in smoke from wildfires, or covered by rainclouds as it was over the weekend. It has already gotten a bit more snow since the last time I saw it, although the snow is still sparser than it usually is during winter and spring.  But our weather is crafting a change in our surroundings .  See the tinge of fall color at the top of the tree in front of Mt. Hood?
Our front pond looks like a grassy field and not a pond, but the little amount of rain we have received since the beginning of September is promising that the weather is crafting a change in season so that once more we hope to have a pond for water fowl to visit.

What crafting in season are you experiencing wherever you are?

  1. Your porch is lovely and it is so nice to see the girls making handmade gifts and all the homemade goodies, too. The baby blanket you knitted is absolutely gorgeous. Glad that the smoke has cleared. We have very high humidity, but thankfully not the monstrous dust storm that some of the surrounding countries had yesterday.

  6. Hi Grace, I love seeing kids crafting it warms my soul. My girls love those hamma beads, they add to a mobile in their bedroom every time they make one. I am trying to stave off Autumn feelings at the moment and wear my dresses until I can stand it no more!!! Jo x

  7. Good Morning Gracie. What a wonderful "crafty" post. You really put a lot of thought into it. Every picture is full of you! Love the girls knitting and I've never heard of carrot cake jam. It sounds delicious. Is the middle of your blanket all the floral yarn or did you add the solid stripes? I think the blanket is gorgeous and will keep a baby snugly warm with love. Oh how I miss you my sweet friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. It's always nice to drop by your blog and read about all the interesting things you have been doing. Love that blanket. That yarn is amazing how it creates such a lovely pattern. :) Wishing you a day filled with many blessings. :)

  9. A very crafty post, Gracie! Fall colors are appearing in Glasgow, and the heat is on in the mornings and evenings to take the chill off. Working away on assembling a steeked jacket... still... Today I got the certificate telling me where my Dad's ashes were scattered at sea. Just out from Depoe Bay. He loved Depoe Bay! That made me happy (and sad, but mostly happy).

  10. Hi Gracie! I loved seeing your girlies crafting with you. Thank you so much for coming out to the falls today for the big event! I'm sorry I wasn't able to spend much time with you but I was so happy to have you there. I hope you enjoyed learning new stuff from the speakers. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. Hello Gracie - such a lovely post. Autumn ( Fall) is starting to peep through - I don't mind though - I love each season for different reasons. Not as much crafting as usual for me. However I have managed a wedding card, a horseshoe gift for the bride, a trial run of gluten free cakes for the wedding and am going to collect the cake and decorations and assemble tomorrow. I am very blessed that my friends have helped me so much with the wedding cake- I could not have done it with all that has happened. My granddaughters visited on Monday after school and we were crafting together outside - after they sampled the cupcakes and passed them fit for the wedding :-) Hugs Anne x

Your world looks so bright and colourful there, Gracie....those dahlias are beautiful...I hope to find some at my greengrocer's very soon too!
    Happy (nearly) weekend.

  13. The blanket is so sweet--a tiny baby will be kept cuddled and warm with it!
Dahlias are beautiful! My grandma grew them in her garden.
What am I crafting? Lesson plans and more lesson plans--my season of teaching. Down here it's too hot to do much else...

  14. my little spider by our big garage door crafted a string of 2 leaves that hung over the entrance as I walked by it to my car this a.m. It startled me. Then as I was backing out and looked back, there was the spider hanging down in front of the leaves. Sigh! Leaves are falling from our heritage birch tree all of a sudden, in yellow. Guess it's from being so dry. I finished a blog post tonight even though I was tired from working. Tomorrow my dentist will do bridge work...finally getting it done, praying for excellent crafting there, for sure! Take care and thanks for sharing what you all have been up to. hugs!

Gracie, Here is a link to a vegan pumpkin spice latte..you could use almond milk instead of soy. I haven't tried it yet but it looks good. I think that was my last Starbucks PSL--dairy in it :( And lots of sugar.

  18. Carrot cake jam? Tell me more!

It looks like there's some lovely seasonal crafting going on there. Here we're still feeling like it's summer, although if the weatherman's to be believed that will change in the week ahead.
