Being housebound due to the snow and ice of Storm Orion last weekend gave me more time than usual to knit and crochet. I figure 15 rows x 181 Continental knit stitches per row advanced my Merino wool blanket by approximately 2,715 stitches! The blanket is starting to be big enough to keep me warm as I knit :)
Although I am enjoying the new for me method of knitting, it occurred to me that I had neglected to crochet a special cotton bib for Rose. Since I made infant bibs for my other five grandchildren, I took a break from knitting the blanket in order to complete the bib for Rose so she can use it before she is no longer an infant! The pattern is based on a bib given to me for my first baby, Tim.
We had a Valentine's Day Dinner with the movie Lady and the Tramp in mind. You know the scene were Lady and Tramp share a spaghetti dinner. Well my daughters staged our dinner with a red checked tablecloth and lots of candles and sparkling grape juice. Romantic Italian music played quietly in the background. It was fun...and the spaghetti was yummy, too :)
The UK edition of Jane Brocket's, The Gentle Art of Domesticity is available in a digital version, which I recently purchased and enjoyed reading. Jane is skilled in analyzing what interests her, and helps me better appreciate our common interests in subjects such as knitting, crochet, and quilting.
Rain is washing away Storm Orion's snow and ice, including the ice on our ponds. When I got home from church today, Mrs. Duck quacked hello from the front pond, and posed very nicely for me! In the afternoons and evenings we have been hearing a chorus of frogs! So while we may well still have more snow and ice in the days ahead, the creatures around us seem to be preparing to celebrate Spring! But I am praying for restoration and encouragement for those of you suffering weather extremes.

Hi Gracie. The snow outside your home looks so pretty. But I am sure you are happy the rain has washed it away. I loved your festive table for Valentines Day!!!! I remember that movie scene very well. Baby Rose's rosebud dress that belonged to Mama, is like one I had for my daughter. That sweet rosebud print was so popular. I had sheets and bumper pads and all in that sweet rosebud. Are her eyes blue? She is so pretty. And I love her bib!!

ReplyDeleteRosie's bib is just darling....as is Rosie! Your blanket is really coming along nicely too. I was a bit disappointed to see your snow though. I always look to you for all the green grass and flowers and open water photos so I'm hoping your snow melts quickly. ;-)

Sounds like a peaceful and cozy time being housebound. Your bib is very sweet and I'm sure your granddaughter will get lots of use of it. We continue to have cold and snow here in OH. Way to go with the blanket. Taci must be a good teacher. You're making such great progress on it. Too bad it wasn't done before Orion hit. Rose is getting so big! I love the bib and it's so nice to see her wearing her mom's old dress. I imagine that her sisters wore it too. The Valentine's spaghetti dinner sounds like so much fun!
