***SURPRISE*** KATIE***

As I typed a few days ago, my great-niece sent me 16 skeins of wool yarn!  I thought she might be able to use a cowl hood in Nebraska where she lives and the winters are cold and windy, so I used a little over three skeins to make one for her.  After a couple of false starts I ended up chaining about 75, then alternating rows of single and double crochet.  I threaded yarn from top to bottom at the join of the cowl, pulled it together to form a gather and sewed a little sheep button on top. Then I persuaded all the girls of the household to model the cowl, except for Molly and me.  Tomorrow I hope to pop it in the mail to fly to my great-niece :-)

Today we ate corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes and carrots.  Did you?

xx,
Gracie

  3. Good job on the cowl, Gracie! I got a kick out of seeing all the models.. right down the the baby! We had roast beef simmered in the crockpot for hours, my goodness it was tender and delicious! I had wanted to make corned beef and cabbage but it didn't happen. Sure missed being with you all on friday. This cold has gone to my lungs and my diaphragm is so sore from coughing. Hope to see you soon. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  6. That's a great cowl, Gracie. Pattern sounds simple enough for me (beginner crocheter!) so I may have to give it a try too.
I'm sure your niece will love it. Have a great week, xx

  13. I really like the colour you've used, green is one of my faves. I don't know if you noticed but it made me laugh, how the snood looked bigger and bigger the smaller the person that was modelling it :p

What will you do with the other 13 skeins?! We didn't have the same dinner as you, in fact we had a very lazy pizza & potato wedges, but I was out climbing & J cooked so I had no say :p x

I can't remember what we ate on St. Pat's day - oh yes. It was braised chicken. (Not at all Irish.) :)

  17. No, today I have made a batch of Bolognaise sauce for 10 people. We will eat 2 with spaggetti and Parmesan. Minced beef, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, carrots, lentils, garlic, onion, herbs and a sauce base of oxo cube and flour and stock.
Looks like Grand daughter is serving tea. The cowl suits everyone.
