The Gifts From Lauren's Closet

Sometimes gifts arrive at just the right time.  Just when I need an affirmation of joy and goodness and generosity in a world where there is terror and suffering nearby.  It is humbling to receive such a gift, especially when it so clearly reflects a great investment of time, artistry, and expense.

Yesterday lives were lost and wounded in a nearby mall on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon, when a man randomly shot into the crowd of shoppers.  A commentator noted this morning that while the act reflected the worst in one man, the actions of many around him reflected the best in many as they reached out to help others.

Shari, the blanket you crocheted for your giveaway from your blog, Lauren's Closet, is beautiful in every way.  The soft cotton formed in a lovely pattern has already warmed me and been admired not only by me but by friends and members of my family.  The praying angel ornament is beautiful as well, and it reminds me to appreciate "joy to the world the Lord is come," and pray that, "every heart prepare Him room...."

Thank you so very much, Shari, for your most generous gifts to me.  I treasure them.
WOW :) **WONDER*OF*WONDERS**  I am a winner indeed!!!

  1. Yeah! you got it! When I always send a package off I knew that I would miss it dearly. I was so use to picking it up each night to add one more row and once it' was finished I just knew I had to make another. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I loved making it! I am touched you have it displayed in your home where it "fits" perfectly! I heard about the horrible news at the mall in Portland! It was all over the news yesterday and the first thing I thought about was you and Teresa. I just don't understand how someone can set out with such a horrible thing, especially during this Holiday Season. Take care

  8. Hi Gracie,
What a wonderful blanket you won. And the angel is perfect. I collect them and always like to see others have joy in them too.

My daughter had actually just left the mall and was halfway to her car when people started running out. She had taken little Piper for her 3 month pictures. How horrible, but how blessed we feel that she had left when she did. To say she was traumatized would be an understatement. I feel so for the victims and their families and for that boys family too. But, I am thankful that his gun jammed when it did or it could have been much, much worse.

I pray that the peace and joy that Christmas brings will help with the healing for everyone touched by this awful event.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Sharing the gift of something worked from yarn is such a simple thing yet it reaches to the roots of us somehow. All the people down all the years who have given warmth to each other in this way. What a truly lovely giveaway win Gracie :D

  14. How lovely. What a wonderful giveaway. Just beautiful. As you say, it's just not the gift (which of course means so much) but the hours and kindness that went into the making. Enjoy. ....you deserve it! Joan

  15. When I heard of the shooting I was just horrified - I have several friends living in the area and prayed for their safety, while praying for the families of those who were shot. What a tragic and unthinkable act.

The blanket is divine - how lucky you are to win such a lovely handmade gift.

  16. Beautiful, beautiful blanket! So happy for you:)
How horrific these senseless acts of violence are. I pray for the families of those who lost their lives in our area and also in Connecticut. How we need the peace that passeth all understanding in our world today.
    May God be with you,
    Aimee

  18. That is so great. I feel the same sometimes...we are bombarded by the violence and evil in this world, and it is so hard to feel the good in people. I'm so happy to see that kindness and good still exists.

  19. Quite a contrast - an old spinning wheel and a baby's play mat. Your Grand child I guess.
Congratulations on your win. Someone has put a lot of work into it for you.
