but why I made it, examining the thoughts that accompany creativity and the act of making."

Anticipation...

Whether it is starting a crochet project like making a wonky single crochet sock for a new family member, or the beginning of a season of celebration, there is a bubble of anticipation that begins to expand within me and grows and grows.  Living in anticipation, savoring the process of growing can be so much fun.

Our family is accumulating all sorts of traditions around the celebration of Christ's birth.  While we use an advent wreath, an advent calendar, and Christmas tree to help us focus our attention on the story of Christ's gift to the world, we have let the myths of Santa working with elves in his workshop tickle our sense of delight in  making or purchasing little love gifts that can be stuffed in socks to surprise each other with on Christmas morning.  [Before we went shopping the other day we checked to see if we had pointy ears like elves :)]

What projects or celebrations are you anticipating?

  1. I'm anticipating the painters getting finished with this ill-timed painting project! He told me they won't be done until next Monday! Wah! I love that you're having fun with the season.

  2. It's so nice to watch everyone getting ready and preparing for this " most wonderful time of the year". I'm hapy you are having faun time with your family. I'm working but trying to savor every single moment we have together wit the kids. We went and go our tree this last weekend and will decorate it slowly this week, listening to Christmas music and drinking a good cup of d'hôtel cocoa.

  3. Aw, it's great that you are enjoying the season! I don't really celebrate Christmas too much - it's just me and Dad so we don't really bother....however, I love to see how excited kids get and the innocent joy in everything for them x x

  5. That looks like a very fun place to visit! And did anyone have pointy ears? :)

This is a busy month for me as of course I feel obliged to make all the gifts I give. (And usually design them too.) But I love to look at the decorations and the tree (when I get them up that is) - they carry precious memories. Our favourite tradition is listening to the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, broadcast live from King's College, Cambridge, England, every Christmas Eve morning. That IS Christmas for us - everything else is just a bonus. :)

  6. Hello Gracie lovely to share your anticipations and preparations. At the moment I am looking forward to be completely over this bronchoilitis. I am getting better and have been trying to make a few cards and think about putting out some of the decorations. Love Anne x

  9. LOVED this post Gracie! I am still smiling after reading it and I actually laughed at the photos of the sleeping former 'elf':)
Now that we are done with the 'main' part of the flooring, I look forward to putting up some Christmas decorations (love your Advent wreath!) both inside and out (if it ever stops raining). Other plans include Christmas Eve service, daily Advent devotionals and a few field trips--if time and remodeling permits:)
    Advent Blessings,
    Aimee

  12. What fun you're having with family celebrating the season. Your advent wreath is just beautiful Gracie. And those sweet sleeping elves after a long day of "elving." :) Adorable.

  14. You obviously wore the young ones out. Expecting my son for Christmas Day and my daughter and family for Boxing Day. So many celebrations have come and gone in the last few weeks. Carols in the neighbourhood tonight have been cancelled because of foul weather.

However Carols outside our conservative party HQ in town still to come tomorrow (forecast dry) and Christmas party/ Worship Saturday for all house churches together.
