First Wednesday Spinning

My youngest daughter and I spent several hours this morning at the Damascus Fiber Arts School in Damascus, Oregon, just down the road a piece from where we live.
My daughter had offered to process some wool for a friend in southern California who works in a zoo where a sheep was shorn and the wool was going to be discarded. She soon got tired hand carding the fiber so decided to go with me to use the DFAS carder.
I worked on spinning the fiber I bought at the fiber festival in Canby, OR, this past fall and the fiber I bought from Sosae Caetano for my birthday in February.
We enjoyed participating in the chit-chat with the other ladies who attended, but I was sorry my friend Teresa was not able to join us.
Are your days happily spinning along, too?

  1. My days certainly are spinning! Spinning out of control with business! But not doing anything fun like "spinning." I would love to try my hand at that!!! Looks like such fun!!!!

    1. I hope you are able to try to spin [yarn] sometime, Kris. It is fascinating to me and I have met wonderful folks in the process. Fun, indeed! (:

  2. Hi Gracie... I wish I'd have been with you all, instead I was standing in the cold rain and hail at Portland Women's Forum discussing a water fountain project, that isn't going as I'd hoped. But, we'll see you in a week from tomorrow for lunch!! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Oh my! Would you believe it was snowing here this morning? I hope you are feeling better. After spinniing and some gentle laps at the pool I ended up only going to church for a little bit because I re-irritated the muscle/ligament in my right leg that has been bothering me off and on for months. So today I have been taking Naproxen and trying to let what ever it is, heal. Sigh... I so enjoyed looking at your treasure box from Lucy!!! Fun! <3

  3. What a lovely place! I always enjoys your photographs, Gracie. :) And I can only imagine how challenging it was for your daughter to hand-card all that wool. Thanks goodness for the DFAS carder! Your spinning is looking just lovely! (Want to see MORE!) :)

    1. I just showed you the good photo of my yarn, Sosae. After I plied it it looked like a hopeless twisted tangle because it was so uneven and over-twisted. Sigh... "The touch" does not seem to come naturally to me, but I will attempt to spin more so I can show you more. (: <3

  4. A spinning group!! I wish there were one closer to me. The closest one I know of is in Dover. So I have to spin alone-or on a spindle out and about at times. Lucky you to have something down the road! Your spinning looks great, by the way! I have the same wheel too. Don't you love it?! :) I'm getting some hand carders soon too. We'll see how that goes...

    1. Stacey! Your comments helped me appreciate what I have where I am. Thanks. I love the portability of my Ashford Joy and that all that I need for plying is contained. I think it is too fast for me or I am too slow at learning to use it properly because I put too much twist in my yarn. The photo of what I had spun looks good but I did not share a photo of what it looked like after I plied it. [convoluted chaos!!!!!]
I like hand carding my fiber and hope you enjoy it too. Thanks for visiting with me! I enjoyed hopping over to your blog to meet you, too. We can be part of the same virtual spinning group, ok? (: <3
