"I started photographing my domestic world and writing not just about what I had made,
but why I made it, examining the thoughts that accompany creativity and the act of making."

While winter is progressing here near Portland, OR, I have completed the cowl part of my merino cowl hood, and the freezing temperatures have produced more ice on the ponds although the ice is not thick enough for skating on it.

Our Camellia bush is promising Spring is coming, however, because it is full of buds,  and I bought a little pot of  crocus bulbs that are sprouting indoors between my two indoor geraniums to add to that promise.

Meanwhile, I am grateful for a warm hearth and home as I watch: little grand girls growing, and a guest with a broken shoulder that is healing, and  rows of stitching increasing in between the hum and drum of daily chores.

What is progressing in and around you?

  1. Look how cute you are.....love your new finished cowl, it looks nice and warm. Can't wait to see you Camellia's bloom....my favorite!

  2. Well.. I'm progressing on a crocheted kitty that I can't wait to show you.. and went to my DAR meeting today.. and have been making baby steps on cleaning up my "hoarder's nest" of an office.. and just living life in my mode.. action.. rest.. rest.. action.. rest rest.. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  3. A smile on my face from seeing your beautiful face on my computer screen. Love your cowl and your smile.

  4. Enjoying the warmth of the hearth on a cold January day sounds like the perfect past time to me. Your new cowl is very pretty and the colors look nice on you. Best wishes for a peaceful week. Heather

  5. Look at all the GREEN around you! Our world is white and brown (and sometimes blue above).

What a very pretty cowl-in-progress. Is that sock yarn? It looks a bit like linen stitch - great texture.

Winter is progressing - the days are getting perceptibly longer - hooray! :)

  6. Hi Gracie. I think I missed the precious post. Those pictures of the frozen falls are terrific! BRRR!!!
Love your cowl! Great colors. Cozy shot of the fire too.
    Happy hooking!

  7. I love your cowl and that beautiful hearth! Looks like the perfect place to curl up with a crochet project or two on a cold winter evening.

  8. Your cowl is beautiful, such lovely colours. I really like your hearth too, it looks like a lovely place to knit or crochet with a friend to chat to.

  9. Your cowl is coming along beautifully - I really like the colors (it matches your lips!). I love the larger photos you've been posting. It's hard to believe there's so many signs of Spring only a mere 8 or 9 hours from me - it's dead Winter here. Not a spec of green.

  10. Aww I love what your camera EYE sees.

Im progressing in my new role as a FLOAT nurse. Worked a 3-11 shift yesterday and going in for one today.
SOOOO Oh so happy to come home to my bed at midnight.

  11. Oh, your cowl is lovely. I love that yarn!

Today I am trying to settle down and learn Tunisian crochet....it's a gray, cold day for us here in KY.

I can't wait to see your lovely camellia bushes. I think they are one of the prettiest flowers...so much prettier than a rose I think.

    Hugs and blessings

  12. Wow Gracie! Your cowl is coming along b-e-a-u-t-I-f-u-l-l-y. You are such a lovely woman, both inside and out and I am honored to have you as my friend. Such hopeful signs of spring. I can use that when it's so cold and white outside here. I can feel the warmth of sitting by your hearth again. Someday, I'll show up with my knitting and we'll have such fun. :-)

  13. Hi, Gracie
Love the colors in your cowl! Even with our blooming camellia and colorful pieris, I feel starved for colors at this time of the year.

  14. Oooh your cowl looks great, and I love the colour of the yarn! I have green shoots starting to appear in the garden and also have some hellebores in flower which look lovely....although I wish that spring would hurry up and get here a bit faster.
Keep on knitting your cowl, and enchanting us with your photo's :)

    Hugs, Sarah x

  15. Gorgeous cowl!

The progressing that is on our minds here at the moment is the weather front that's supposed to bring us a lot of snow later. And meanwhile I'm progressing to the dentist having had another tooth disintegrate this morning! Wish me luck!

  16. I love your beaming smile, Gracie! The cowl is gorgeous. And your living room just pulls me in... I want to curl up on the rug with some knitting. :)

  17. It is lovely to see your happy smile, Gracie! Your cowl is lovely too. I am glad you and your companions are keeping snug and cosy there. It is snowing here today and very cold so the fireside is the place to be here too :)
    Wishing you a happy weekend.
    Helen x

  18. Hello Gracie, I thought I would pop and say 'hello!' as we have been paired in All4Meggymoo's swap ... I am sooooooo excited and looking forward to our swap!!!!

  19. Hello Grace. Your smile is beautiful and I really love the colours in the cowl. Sorry for late comment, my Mum has been staying this week so have been very busy doing other things. Anne x

  20. Just love your cowl Gracie. It's turning out just perfect. I have been so busy with kids ( they have 3 friends here for the whole 4 day weekend we r having to study for finals) I haven't even been able to read my friends blogs. When I get to go upstairs n get my iPad I'm so tired I cannot even read and I fall asleep. Next week it will always be easier and quieter over here.
We also have lots of ice.
    Love... Love the cowl :)

  21. Hi Gracie. Just love the window full of happy! I remember making those crayon and wax paper things when I was a little girl. I think I remember using the iron to do them. With Mom, of course.
Love the peaceful photo of the hearth with logs aglow. Such a wonderful time of nesting, I think. And although we are not nearly as cold here, we are enjoying some nice rain, and lots of roaring fires in the fireplace! So cozy!!!
    XO Kris
